Books that shout Winter

What books shout WINTER to you? When I went through my reading lists for the past few years these titles jumped out as wintery. Also they all are not surprisingly historical fiction titles. Each will have you wanting to huddle up by a fire to warm yourself as they sweep you away to a different time and place and maybe climate.

This WWII historical fiction is largely set in a vast wasteland of snow above the Artic Circle.

Plus it is a moving story of survival and fighting for hope. All while the characters navigate living in a world consumed with cold.

The title is a bit on the nose, but this WWI novel has a med student trekking to what he finds to be a freezing battlefield hospital ravaged with typhus. I was conflicted on how I wanted this one to end even with 60 pages left. But it was such a lovely story of love, war, and healing.

Anastasia Romanov was forced into a basement in Siberia with her family where they faces a merciless firing squad and non survived, or is that really true? Written in one of the most fascinating structures this book will have you puzzling together the pieces of this story until the end. But that feeling of being braced against the elements permeates this story.

Leni and her parents move to Alaska when she is 13 and it seems like it may be the healing balm her family needs. But the winter approaches and threatens who they are and who they want to be. Is the winter a villian or an agent of redemption?
