Food in every culture is a binding connection between those who cook it and those who share in it's flavors. And in this feast of a memoir we get to experience flavors of nostalgia, grief, joy, and remembrance alongside Michelle as she reflects on how her relationship with her mother forms who she is in life. Written fairly close in time to when she lost her mother this book is raw in its emotions and personally I think I would have enjoyed it more had Michelle had more time to marinate in the ramifications of these life changing occurrences in her life. Not to say it isn't well written and I didn't enjoy it, but I think it is missing some literary flavor that time would give it.
