Maizy leaves sunny California to visit her grandparents in Minnesota for the summer. She ends up "babysitting" her grandfather and being sucked into a story he tells her about his ancestor. This story within a story has lots of elements. Including: of small town culture, immigrants, racist messages, a mysterious history, and more. It ties them all together though with a deft hand and weaves each piece into a beautiful picture of the life and legacy Maizy's family has built for her.
