The Southern Side of Paradise

Building on the stories of the previous two books, now Emerson and Ansley get their storylines highlighted. (While I do recommend reading the whole series, each book can also be a standalone). Both women are engaged and read to start their next chapters with the men they love. But as is par for the course in their world, there are secrets, drama, and family dynamics at play that will ensure that everything does not in fact go to plan. In fact, all secrets may just be brought to light. I love how Harvey writes very distinct characters with their own voices and perspectives. Set in a charming Georgia coastal town, the array of townsfolk that fill out the story add to the allure and drama that surround this mom and her three daughters.

Christmas in Peachtree Bluff

It's Christmas time in Peachtree and the "storm of the century" threatens to derail the plans of this family. But maybe it will also bring them closer than ever before. Told from the perspective of Ansley and her daughters, with the edition of Vivi, Ansley's granddaughter, this book (which I thoroughly enjoyed on audio) is a beautiful conclusion to this lovely series. Once again Harvey executes describing a complicated and loving dynamic from various points of views with a deft hand. Plus the Christmas spirit was served up at just the right amount and added some cozy amongst the ever present family drama.

*My only note of things I don't love about these books is how some characters approach food and body image. This fits their characters though and makes sense as a plot device. I would have liked to see a character standing up for a healthy view of all body types as a contrast though.
