The stories we tell carry weight and this book dives in that theme as we reconnect with all our favorite Front Desk characters. Mia is struggling with some changing dynamics in her friendships with Lupe and Jason. Then Mia and her parents make a trip home to visit their families in China and realizes her extended family dynamics have changed as well. What is the story she is telling herself, what is the story she is telling in her writing, and what is the truth? I loved how Yang handled navigating the waters of dealing with truth vs feelings and how they might not always be the same. As always, Yang deals with a bevy of issues with a straight on approach that makes it readable and not overly preachy.
