Nancy Drew #1, The Secret of the Old Clock- Review

Updated: Oct 5, 2021

by: Carolyn Keene

rating: really liked

Reading this as an adult brought up some issues I have with the plot. Nancy continually gets lucky and people give her the benefit of the doubt constantly. Nancy is pretty privileged overall as well. These books were created by the publisher with very specific outlines and chapter and page length requirements and then a ghostwriter filled in the content. As a kid those fast moving chapters and lots happening in the plot made these books page turners, but now as an adult I am left wanting a bit more substance and character development.

If you want to join in a Nancy Drew Book-club, I run the #NancyDrewBookCrew over on my Instagram where we are reading all the books in order. You can come participate in the discussion there!
